Happy Veterans Day

Today, on Veterans Day, I think of my grandfather and his willingness to leave my grandmother to fight in WWII. I’m so grateful for his service, and that my kids and I are able to still sit down and talk with him about his experiences. They love to hear about how he was in charge of making the officers homemade ice cream, and earned money on the side by ironing his shipmates’ uniforms because he was the best at it.

To my grandfather, and all the other men and women who have served, are serving, or will serve, I thank you.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful women out there that inspire and enrich our lives.

To my own mother, I love you and I’m so glad I can call you my best friend. I only hope I have inherited even a few of the wonderful qualities that make you the best mom ever. And thank you for instilling in me a love for the written word.
